  • Interesting development...

While I'm not one to get my hopes up over small change (or even big bills), an intriguing project has come up. I've been offered a corner in a budding gallery in my hometown.  My sister's friend's mother is the owner, and it's always been her dream to enable local artists to 'get going' and she invited me and a couple of other people into what's going to be her store. She spent 3grand of her own money to renovate and clean up a small space, and how it works is I pay her a (very low) rent and I get to sell my work and keep all my profits.

I have completely creative control over my area, and she'd like me to be on hand as much as possible to actually work on my stuff.  (She wants to create this hybrid gallery-workshop type place, for artists) ...so not only do I get a place to showcase and sell my work, but I also get a place, and time, to work on my stuff.

The big opening is this weekend... so I have to hustle, along with all the other ridiculous amounts of crap I have to do, to set up the space visually (paint, shelving, etc... getting stuff printed and framed) and get going.

I have to say I'm fairly excited, even though I'm a person who tends to "prepare for the worst, and hope for the best".  So I'm going to be prepared.  Anyway, it's a small place, and I'm not quite sure of the market... but at least it's a fun project to try for a while, it's on a monthly basis, so I'll try it for November and see if I can manage the amount of time it will take to do.  I'm not sure how much I'll sell (if I do) but hopefully it'll cover my costs.

Anyway.  Seems like fun, and it's always been sort of a dream of mine to be in a gallery, no matter how small.

    Huzzah.

Now I just have to get rid of this goddamned cold, finish my school work, and get through the vaccination rush at work this week.

*pant pant pant*  When it rains, it pours.
